Docks, Large, West Harbor Marina 1-419-734-2226
May 28th 2021,
We spent the day pulling dock boxes to higher ground, gathering wayward coolers, kayaks, and most importantly checking on our neighbors boats! To my knowledge we only had one boat break free in our marina and it was quickly secured by one of the crew. With an 80" rise in water, 15' waves, gale force winds, it was a day to remember.
The afternoon following the storm we were itching to go out, so we headed south out of the marina to Boondocks!
When you get into West Harbor, Catawba Island, take the channel at the Y to the port side(south) to the end of the harbor.
Entering West Harbor Marina you will find the dock for Boondocks to the port side. It was a tight turn for us, having high wind and boats in close proximity but the folks at the bar were happy to jump up an help. There was plenty of room in the floating dock for our 41OAL trawler and plenty of depth. There was not much room beside us for another boat. On a busy night I would have put her on the hook and run the dinghy in vs taking up two spots.
When you get there try a Boon Docks Light Lager or Bloody Mary! The Larger was light and refreshing with a nice lemon to it. The Bloody Mary is really GOOD and house made!
The bar has a couple dozen stools but there are bunches of roomy tables out in the sun for gathering.
The made to order, 12" pizzas are served very quick and hot!
Half Pint had a plane cheese pizza and ate most of it. It's rare for him to eat much of anything, he's very picky.
Capt'N and I split a Deluxe, no mushrooms, sub banana peppers. They come loaded up with toppings, served with some parm and red pepper flakes on the side. For only being 12" we were not able to finish the entire pizza.
Boondocks is a nice spot to listen to some live music, enjoy a drink with the crew, and grab a bit to eat. It really clean, great bathrooms, nice docks, and the best part its in my home port. We'll be back!
As most of us in the service industry are aware of, there is a massive shortage of staff. Be patience and understanding!
